Things couldn't be more different now and its been perfect timing to welcome our first visitors

So in April, we were awash with rain, rain and more rain, now in July we have wall to wall sunshine, and brown grass! It couldn't be more beautiful for our visiting guests so far this summer, and lets hope it continues that way, with perhaps the odd shower here and there to help with the watering!

Whoah - early mornings and afternoon teas

The launch of our new bed and breakfast rooms upstairs in the main house happened just in the nick of time ready for our first guests from the US at the end of May. We now have the Ramble and Tandem rooms to add to our Striders Room downstairs, which means we can now accommodate up to 6 guests in the house. Our first guests, needed somewhere to stay before their booking in the Stables cottage so hey presto, we could help them for their first night and they were so complimentary it gave us bags of confidence for all those that are now following.

The bed and breakfast wing upstairs is solely for guests who know each other, so if visitors just book the one room they won't be sharing the space with those they don't know. However, it works beautifully with a group of 4 sharing too.

Breakfasts have been well received, with options on the traditional full cooked or an alternative of the day. I've been busy making muesli, granolas, biscotti and so much more for the breakfast table and we have surpassed our guests expectations. Paul took charge one morning, while I was off at a charity event and surprised himself!

We have had a beautiful family gathering of a local resident, who loved taking over our space to accommodate her whole family, and it was such a glorious weekend to see them making the most of our garden, and simply chilling in the sunshine and celebrating in style. Afternoon tea and cake in the garden for all 11 of them was your quintessentially English experience.

Goodwood Festival of Speed guests found their journey to the event on the back roads easy and stress free, and our safe off road parking made all the difference.

We have yet to accommodate any walkers or cyclists who we are now perfectly kitted up to do so, and hope over the coming months that will change with our membership of the Southdowns National Park Cyclists and Walkers welcome scheme.

Our new bespoke images to add that individuality to our brand - care of the super talented Alex Prewett .

Having spotted some work by Alex, we definitely wanted a bit of 'that' to add a little quirkiness to our brand and we are thrilled with the results, over the coming weeks and months we will be using his images on our website and in house. We just love the way he has managed to capture what The Lone Barn is all about, offering the discerning holiday maker, cyclist, or walker a perfect countryside retreat deep in the Southdowns National Park.

Watch this space for the results from a recent photo shoot too by another talented lady Sarah Sheldrake

It hasn't all been work of course, we have had a quick cycling weekend in Normandy, visiting friends in Belgium on another, and Paul has been lucky enough to swan around the Solent too and across the Channel on friends yachts - don't forget its that work life balance we have to think about too so take the any opportunities you have and head to our website and see if you can escape for a few days to a beautiful part of this fabulous country. See you very soon, and this time I mean it!
