October warmth, special offers, mental health day & recipes

Thinking of those around us and the powers of the sun are always with us.

As I write this, it is expected to be the hottest day on record for an October day in the UK, for so many suffering from a Mental Health illness (on what is also World Mental Health Awareness day) it will be just another day for them, perhaps it wont be even possible to notice that the sun is shining at all.

We know as a family how mental health can push you to your limits, and thats not only for the sufferers so we wish those suffering and for those who care for their loved ones lots of best wishes and hope for a healthy recovery and remember the sun is always there even if its hidden from time to time.

We spent the cold wet and windy day last Saturday getting all the winter clobber out of the cupboards so it seems hard to believe we seem to have been launched straight back to a mid summers day, embrace it while we can hey and the cutting patch which managed to miss all those frosts that some poor souls experienced in September will keep flowering for that little bit longer.

Offers for staying at The Lone Barn this winter - 30%off

When we venture on our bikes for a weekend away with friends, we always look for somewhere a little special to stay. Getting wet, muddy or a little sweaty whilst peddling or walking the countryside doesn't mean you have to slum it, we

know what the cycling/walking enthusiasts are looking for, gorgeous rooms, with a scrumptious breakfast and homemade tea and cake to re fuel on your

arrival. We can lock up your bikes securely in the lockup, having washed them at our cycle wash station first. There is a tool station too in the barn should you need to tinker with the bikes. We have plenty of drying areas for kit and walking boots.

So for subscribers to our newsletter we are offering guests who walk or cycle to The Lone Barn 30% off their stay of 2 or more nights in Winter 2018/19, so don't delay subscribe to our newsletter on our website now.

Pop up Coffee stops and a recipe to try !

The Lone Barn’s POP UP coffee stops made its second appearance in the barn at the end of last month. We had lots of cyclists and walkers dropping by for homemade cakes and great pour over coffees and others who simply wanted to head out of town for some clean green air and some time to relax. Into the bargain we raised over £380 for Macmillan as part of the worlds biggest coffee morning fundraiser. So thank you to all those who took the time and made the effort to head out to us and help us raise money for a great cause. To keep ahead of the game and perhaps to plan your trips out, subscribe to our newsletter where you will get all the latest dates for our pop ups or simply go to our whats on page and it will be on the calendar.

We are getting lots of lovely compliments on our homemade cakes, and one of our favourite cakes at the Pop up is our Banana and Carrot cake, we thought some of you might like to try it yourselves, so here is the recipe :
